Volunteers are the heart and soul of ReStore’s operation. Volunteers are needed Tuesdays through Saturdays to help pick up, sort and prepare donated merchandise, price goods, re-stock and tidy shelves and stage the sales floor. During store hours, volunteers assist shoppers. Volunteers also participate in ReStore special events.

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and are welcome to work on a regularly-scheduled basis, occasionally or as a one-time experience.

To apply to become a volunteer, please fill out the form below, call (518) 828-0892 or email volunteer@columbiacountyhabitat.org
What to Expect as a ReStore Volunteer
Can I just show up?
No. You need to register by filling out form below.

What hours will I work?
You’ll confirm your specific hours in advance with the ReStore Manager, who maintains both monthly and weekly volunteer schedules. Volunteers are asked to sign on for a minimum of 4 hours – either 10 to 2 or 2 to 6 – whenever they’re able to work.

What should I do when I arrive?
Check in with a Cashier and sign Volunteer Sign-In/Sign-Out sheet. When you’re finished for the day, sign out on the same sheet.

Do I need to sign a liability waiver?
Yes. Habitat for Humanity International requires every volunteer to sign a liability waiver agreeing to take personal responsibility for any accidents or injuries suffered while volunteering. Waivers need to be signed once a year.

What will I do?
ReStore operations encompass a wide range of activities, like cleaning and pricing donations, staging merchandise on the sales floor and helping customers during store hours. Over time, many volunteers establish specialties that reflect their particular interests and focus their efforts accordingly.

How hard will the work be?
No retail experience is necessary. You’ll never be asked to do anything that’s beyond your physical abilities or comfort level. The work can be physically demanding, and you should expect to be on your feet for extended periods.

What should I wear?
Dress in comfortable work clothing. For your safety, wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, hard-toe shoes and/or boots and keep jewelry to a minimum (so it doesn’t catch on something). During winter ReStore can be cold, making multiple warm layers useful.

What about lunch?
Because lunch breaks are short and nearby restaurants are few, volunteers bring their lunches. Coffee, tea and water are available throughout the day.

What if I’m unable to come when scheduled?
Volunteers are scheduled so that the work that needs to get done can be done. Please make every effort to work when you’re expected. If you can’t keep your commitment, please call ReStore at 518.822.8300 as soon as possible.
FAQS
Who can volunteer at ReStore?
Anyone who wants to support Columbia County Habitat’s affordable home building programs.

How old do you need to be?
Volunteers must be 16 or older. Volunteers younger than 18 require written parental permission.

What do ReStore volunteers do?
They pick up donations, prepare and stage the merchandise, help customers shop, and do everything in between. Volunteers work Tuesdays through Saturdays. The ReStore registration form lets you indicate the area(s) where you have interest and/or experience.

Is there a minimum time requirement for volunteering?
Whatever time you have makes a difference. We like volunteers to identify a day or portion of a day (morning or afternoon) each week when they can come consistently.

How do I volunteer at ReStore?
There are 3 ways you can volunteer. You can register your interest here by using the form below and the ReStore Manager will contact you to discuss next steps. You may call the ReStore Manager directly at 518.822.8300 or visit the store to introduce yourself and complete a Registration/Waiver Form.
